African Mango Weight Loss

For a while there the health world seemed obsessed with Goji berries, Pomegranate, and Acai berries. Now there is a new ‘super-fruit’ gaining international attention for it’s supposed ability to help people on their journey losing a few pounds.

While the African mango is a new phenomenon in the Western world, native Africans are said to have used and benefitted from the African mango and its seeds for hundreds of years. It is traditionally believed that both the fruit and the extract have medical benefits beyond its weight loss capabilities.

The Latin name of the African Mango tree is Irvingia gabonensis (IG). Grown in Central and West Africa, it produces a fruit similar to a mango, which is where it gets its common name. In areas where African mango grows, its flesh is widely eaten. But it’s the seed or nut (fresh or dried) that contains the supposedly powerful ingredients for weight loss. Sold almost exclusively online, the seed extract comes in powder, liquid, and capsule supplements.

Taking the supplement 30-60 minutes before meals is said to reduce appetite, lower blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels, reduce fat cell growth, boost the breakdown of fats, and improve blood sugar control.
